MIDI DRESS AND STATEMENT BAUBLES

Midi dress and statement necklace.

A flattering midi dress is a must-have! It certainly makes dressing easy, without having to pull out too many styling tricks. The bias cut of this silky number creates a flirty, feminine silhouette, and the diagonal narrow stripes elongate the body.

As you can imagine nothing is better, as far as I’m concerned, to bring an understated dress alive then noteworthy bijoux. I’m still getting around to listing these pieces, but don’t let the stop you, email me (info@sashamaksvintage.com) if  you fall hard for any of these.  The faux ivory bead necklace with an enameled panther head is making me giddy with joy (it somehow manages to look both quirky and classic), it will be hard to part with this one! I complimented the necklace with high dome button YSL earrings (I love their traditional but bold vibe!) The chunky charm bracelet (not Chanel, but sure could pass for it) is an 80s decadent dream.

With such an uncomplicated dress a strappy sandal (I could wear these with everything in my closet!) with flirty ties lend a whimsical touch. And the raspberry satchel looks so chic with the neutral look!

{TUXEDO} JEANS AND BLAZER

Tuxedo jeans and white blazer.
I tend to live in jeans, and when I saw this tapered leg version with a tuxedo stripe on a mannequin at H&M, I made a beeline for them. The style simultaneously gives off a very relaxed, but dressed up vibe. I went a size bigger, to maintain the look of a trouser. And that stripe in a darker wash really elevates the basic jeans +tee +blazer look.

I kept the top half of the outfit tonal, including the necklace. The design is so quirky (how cool are the lion head stamping with an antiqued finish!) and enough of a statement to stand out against the same color palette.

If there’s one piece I reach for in the spring and summer it’s this oyster white blazer I bought it a few years ago, and it’s been my go-to to add an easy polish to just about any casual look. The boxy cut pairs equally well with jeans or sleek slip dresses.

The Kelly green peep-toe booties with a sculptural heel are old faves, they are from a local designer, Martha Davis, and I’ve had them for at least 7 years.
Being so distinct, my guess is, they will never become outdated. I love the color kick they give to this neutral look!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2016 STYLE RECAP

Sasha Maks Vintage 2016 Recap

Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone enjoyed the Holidays and ringing in the New Year!
First of all I would like to thank you for letting me share these weekly posts with you! My fave part at the end of the year is to look back at the evolution of my personal style, the collabs, and the best buys of the year.

Vintage shopping never fails me and remains my best strategy for sourcing outerwear and cocktail/party dresses. And I have started taking my clients shopping for vintage clothes as well, the trick is to be open to what you find even if it’s not on the shopping agenda. Some of my best finds was a ’70s bronze lamé grecian midi dress from Gump’s (that I can wear to a NYE party and pair with basic sweater to sport as a skirt), a Courrèges duster (I cannot think of more versatile piece for spring and summer!), and a raw silk maxi dress in pale yellow from the ’80s.
Besides vintage, I’m also partial to designer consignment boutiques. And while there are many to choose from, my go-to is Closet 1951. I’m sure to find must-have designer hand bags and closet staples at a fraction of the price.

If you have been following my blog since 2015, you will remember my collaborations with local designers Kajan Cake,  Tokyo Gamine, and WearMahsa. It was pleasure to feature them again on the blog, here, here, and here. Each designer has a distinct personal vision, a dedication to craftsmanship, and the commitment to sourcing the best quality fabrics.
My shoe wardrobe got a much needed boost. As you know I turn to Zara first for a quick fix for on-trend and affordable shoes, the mule loafers and ballet slippers with ribbon ties where my best finds. Once the weather got chillier, I was lucky to score some fierce chunky Rag and Bone booties and Alexander Wang cutout heel  booties.
And I was very fortunate to score an oversized Vetements coat (that has proven to be incredibly wearable) and the coveted reworked jeans, that due to  a fuller cut on the leg, really function as trousers.

So what are my conclusions for the 2016 style recap? My basic tenets for dressing well remain the same, but with a  twist. I will still keep the foundation of my wardrobe stocked with closet staples such as a trench coat, moto jacket (I’m saving up for the perfect one!), classic coat, jeans, but will look for iterations that are more fashion forward (a strong shoulder, a creative hem). And I’ll keep an eye out for more unique vintage finds in both clothes and jewelry that define my signature style.
Shop my fave picks below and please share your personal style goals with me in the comments.
