{BUNDLE UP} TEDDY COAT AND CHINOS

Teddy Coat and chinos.
Yes, it’s finally chilly enough to break out the major outerwear! I’m so happy I got this gorg teddy coat last year, it’s really cozy and packs a lot of style. I can throw it over any casual look and immediately elevate it. And this will be perfect for topping of a slinky slip dress for the upcoming holiday parties. I think I may have to live in this luxe topper for the rest of the season!
The chinos are from H&M, I got them a couple of month ago, but just getting the chance to wear them now. I love how the cropped style shows off a pair of sparkly socks.
And let’s not ignore the jewelry! (Btw the Glitz-n-Glam Holiday Pop Up, on the 14th at Superga will be followed up the next day by another Holiday Pop Up at Atelier Emmanuel’s second location on Maiden Lane, stop by between 1-5pm for holiday gifts by local purveyors, you can find out more and RSVP here.)
To compliment the lush faux fur, I’m wearing one my fave finds from Paris, beautifully sculpted leaf earrings by Robert Goossens and they deserve equally statement making arm candy, an 80s charm bracelet of gold-plated resin and faux pearls. I have not listed it yet, but email me with any inquires, info@sashamaksvintage.com.
Bundle in your fave coat and I hope to see you at one of the upcoming events!
XO Sasha

GRAPHIC TEE AND DUSTER

Graphic tee and Courreges duster.

Who doesn’t love a good graphic tee? It certainly makes dressing easier when you want to inject a serious dose of personality and attitude into a high-low ensemble. Being a movie buff, I couldn’t resist this Thomas Crown Affair tee, a bank heist movie from that features some of the most stylish clothes, hair and makeup from the late 60s!

The loose fitting tee set the mood for the rest of the look. I’ve paired it with a slouchy, silky maxi skirt (new find from Closet 1951),  and my current go-to coat, a vintage Courrege duster (it really goes withe everything, and I’m obsessed with the oh so on-trend full sleeves!). And talking about slouchy, I love the lived-in elegance of the Proenza Schouler PS1 satchel.
To counteract all the soft shapes in this look I chose two geometric Lucite bracelets by Judith Hendler from the 80s. They are oversized, simple, and elegant.

THE COOL CARDIGAN

Statement cardigan and sheer tunic.
When you’re not in the mood for a structured blazer, there’s nothing more cozier then a cardigan, but it doesn’t have to be boring! On a recent visit to the Fashion Incubator (FiSF) I met an emerging local designer, Mahsa Gharehgozloo. whose collection, Wear Mahsa, is sophisticated, elegant and ideal for work and after-hours.
One of the pieces that really stood out to me was the longline cardi with an abstract print on the back. It’s bold and versatile, and could be easily layered over another sweater or jacket. To contrast the bulky knit, I chose a sheer tunic dress ( actually an overlay from a dress you’ll see in another post). Tuxedo stripe trousers and chunky sandals balance the look between laid-back and polished. Chunky Lucite jewelry compliments the casual chic look.
How would style a statement cardigan?
XO Sasha
P.S. You can shop Wear Mahsa and another local talent I have featured on the blog, Kajan Cake, Friday, May 5th, 6.30-8.30pm at FiSF’s Pop Up, 50 Powell Street, San Francisco, CA 94102.

PSYCHEDELIC {MARRAKECH} MAXI

Boho maxi dress and chandelier earrings.
Can a dress transport you to an exotic vacation of your dreams? No doubt, if it’s a high-waist pleated maxi in a bright psychedelic print inspired by Marrakesh! When I saw this dress at Love Street Vintage, visions of strolling through Moroccan souks (picking out Berber jewelry, stocking up on caftans and babouches) began swimming in my head. A strong print like this calls for bold jewelry. My fave filigree chandelier earrings and a double pendant necklace compliment the boho fabulous dress. Add an assortment of brass rings and I’m ready to explore Morocco!

And don’t forget to use promo code  SASHA to shop Love Street online or in-store to receive 10% off all merchandise through June 14th. Your perfect vintage vacay outfit is only a click away!

SHADES OF BLUE AND SILVER

Vintage denim and taffeta skirt.

One way to stretch your wardrobe is to incorporate evening pieces into a day look. Taffeta, denim and rhinestones mesh together to blur the boundaries of day and evening dressing.

This look was build around my new denim jacket. It was the vintage score of the year so far! I was immediately drawn by the powder blue color, and when I was told it was part of a man’s factory uniform from pre WWII France, I was sold! Talk about vintage denim find! It’s oversized, but can be cinched from the inside to define the waist in the back. I didn’t bother steaming it, love the way the heavy folds of the flap pockets give it a quirky personality.

I wanted a tonal look, and to contrast the heavy denim fabric chose a maxi skirt in a silver hue.  A vintage intarsia sweater and gray tasseled loafers ground the look for day. Dangly rhinestone and black glass cameo earrings, and silver mesh bag double up for an evening out.
How do you take evening wear into day?

TEXTURE AND COLOR PLAY

Silk dress and chunky sweater.

This look is all about contrasting texture and pops of color. A silk, autumnal hued striped dress is paired with a cozy knit. A coconut bead necklace with a horn clasp (I love how it echoes the texture of the chunky heather grey sweater) and wood bangles are contrasted with colorful glass beads and a gold-tone cuff with gem colored rhinestones. Finishe off with a classic gray coat and sculptural green peep toes, the ensemble balances boho with modern.
How do you like to mix it up with color and texture? Please comment below.

#WhatIWore: 2015 STYLE RECAP

2015 Style Recap
Happy New Year fashionistas!
It’s time to look back at 2015 and share my fave looks with you.

One of the highlights of the year, came at the very end, a shoot and an interview with Yuka Uehara of Tokyo Gamine, her collection is theatrical, feminine, bold, and a thrill  to wear. It was also a pleasure to collab again with Closet 1951, I’m always assured of finding high-impact pieces there.

And putting this post together allowed me a great overview on which pieces have worked for me the most, and what I need to add to my wardrobe. Besides scoring some choice vintage pieces–a YSL safari jacket (in the most to die for burnt-terracotta), a 3/4 length cream coat, a French 1940s denim jacket in a seafoam green (that I will shoot soon), and a beaded cocktail headband (that works equally well with a couture gown and a maxi summer dress),  my top buys this year came from COS in LA–a white shirt dress, wide leg trousers, and an oversized camel sweater. I’ve said this several times before, and will say it again, COS needs to come to SF!

I was also excited to pick up a pair of babouches in LA, that are shaping up to be the shoe of the year ( thanks Phoebe Philo!) Speaking of shoes, a pair of OTK boots from Stuart Weitzman was one of the best buys of the year. They are beyond versatile, add a sexy edge to any  look, and make a shorter length much more wearable. This only whets my appetite for more styles!

I can’t wait to share more looks with you this year! Let me know which you liked the most from 2015 and share your best ensembles and buys. And stayed tuned for my newsletter coming soon!
XO Sasha

SKIP THE COAT, THROWN ON A WRAP PONCHO

wrap poncho

On a recent trip to LA , I could not skip a visit to COS, I find it an essential resource for picking up sophisticated wardrobe basics. The drawstring camel sweater was a must, I knew chilly weather was coming soon! Although it was hard to believe, since SF weather in November was still pretty mild. I bought it a size bigger, I think the slouchier the better. The wrap poncho is ideal for throwing on over an oversized top or layers. A vintage wrap poncho in Aztec print is event better! To keep proportions balanced, I chose skinny patch jeans. Recently purchased peep-toe wedge lace ups from Topshop elongate the leg and show a little skin. Granted this was shot before this week’s torrential rains. To keep warm and dry, I’d choose slim OTK boots like these from Stuart Weitzman.  As you have probably noticed, in my opinion bigger is always better, when it comes to jewelry. I layered a current fave, a glass white and black cabochon link bracelet, with a wide link textured chunky chain.
Have you been tempted by the poncho/blanket/wrap trend?
Share you fave ways to wear it in the comments.

VELVET AND SILK: BOHO {WINTER} LAYERS

Fancy fabrics and tactile textures come together in this boho look. A knit stole/vest, over a velvet top is punctuated by silk charmeuse culottes and woven leather boots. I was always a big fan of culottes. And I love seeing them become such big trend! When I found these with a floral motif border, I had a myriad of looks playing in my head. They can go from season to season and day to night effortlessly. Luxe fabrics like velvet and silk don’t have to be saved for the holiday parties only. When tempered with woven leather and knits sumptous fabrics play nicely together for day. And don’t neglect your accessories game!  Extend the mix of textures by layering wooden bangles with a gold-tone gem stone encrusted bracelet and an enamel giraffe bracelet. Finish off with statement drop earrings of Lucite cabochons set in a foliate motif frame that echoes the culottes’ design.
Do you love luxurious fabrics? How would you rock these gorgeous textures?

ELEVATED BASICS: { TIED WITH A BOW }

Checked blazer and draped pants.

Effortless style is easily achieved with basics that will take your from meetings to evenings out. When shopping for wardrobe essentials, look for pieces that offer interesting details, pattern, or tailoring. Chances are you already own a black pair of trousers, when looking for an update instead of buying a similar pair, opt for style with a twist. In this case, I’m wearing a chic draped pair embellished with an oversized bow. A sleek bodysuit balances the embellished trousers. (You have probably noticed the bodysuit has come back in big way. It’s super versatile, serves as a foundation for an outfit, and most importantly stays put all day). A gingham blazer lends a graphic edge and an impeccably crafted backpack keeps your busy life organized. A chunky, braided silver-tone necklace adds a textured statement.
What wardrobe staples are you buying for fall?
