ALWAYS BOHO {SUMMER}

Sasha Maks Vintage flared jeans and embroidered top.

I love flared jeans in the summer! They allow me to play out all my sartorial boho fantasies. The style always invokes one of my most admired style icons of the 60s and 70s like–Jane Birkin. I found this pair of light washed denim a year or two back at H&M and the hight-waist and oversized front patch pockets have such an earthy appeal.

And nothing looks better with a wide bottom jean then a boho blouse. This embroidered number is from last year’s trip to Morelia, Mexico. In fact I’m going back to Mexico again this summer to explore Oaxaca this time. The area is renowned for their textiles and weaving techniques, and I’m excited to see what I will find there!

All I need here is a strong hoop. And these chunky, ornate open-work earrings have just the right gypset vibe. And why not add a whimsical sun, moon, and stars link bracelet? This one goes with everything!

To shop similar statement jewelry pieces stop by this Thursday at A Summers Night Shoppping Event at Superga SF. I’ll be there with Salt and Soul (you have seen me sport the new e-boutique’s perfect summer bags and sunnies here and here).  Please RSVP here. We hope to you there!

{OPULENT} BOHO SPRING

Boho gown and Sasha Maks Vintage statement earrings.
My heart skipped a beat when I first saw this dress at Closet 1951! I have a weakness for statement boho dresses, and this one delivered on every count.
It possesses all the typical things this genre of dress has–it’s maxi, flowy, with bishop sleeves, in a delicate, lacy paisley print, but wait, there’s more! This one boasts a open back with an attached shawl cape. And I love the earthy palette! This is a lot of dress and the almond and black tones really ground it.
Fun fashion fact: the dress is by Louis Féraud, who designed for film for such French style icons as Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve!

I had to go with gold here, and chose oversized drop earrings, with a whirl design that gives them a sense of movement echoing the intricate swirls of the paisley motif. The chunky bracelet, is actually a necklace I wrapped twice. The round profile of the chain really pops.

I chose a minaudiere by R&Y Agousti, a company known for creating accessories and furniture from natural and exotic materials. The rigid clutch counters the drapey lines of the dress, and the inlays of shagreen and ostrich leg framed in bronze add a touch of whimsy.

SUMMER EDIT: SLIP DRESS + SLEEVELESS BLAZER

Summer Edit: Slip Dress + Sleeveless BlazerDress: Ralph Lauren | Blazer: Iris and Ink Skye | Necklace: Sasha Maks Vintage | Shoes: Aquazzura | Bag: The Row

My fave looks for a stylish summer are effortless, chic, with an eye toward the trends.  Two weeks ago I wrote about the six essential dress styles for summer and this week I show how I would style one of them.

I see my warm temps uniform as the perfect slinky slip dress, paired with a sleeveless blazer for a dose of sophistication, and a block heel sandal I an walk in all day.  Add an artfully mixed armful of bangles or a statement choker and this minimalist chic look will see me from 9 to 9 through the summer.

Share your go-to stylish summer looks in the comments.

EASY SPRING STYLE: LBD + DENIM

LBD and denim jacket

Originally published on Urban Darling.

An LBD is an obvious wardrobe essential, easy to dress up or down, and one of my fave is this vintage silk jersey dress with a turquoise floral trim, lending it a Pucciesque vibe. A denim jacket is another piece no modern closet can go without. To glam it up, just add statement jewelry, in this case arabesque shoulder dusters and chunky oval link bracelet.

How do you like to style your fave LBD? Please share in the comments.

DRESS OVER PANTS: WINTER LAYERS

sweaterdress

I have always been enamored with the dress over pants trend.  And this combo is never more apropos when it’s deathly cold outside ( as it was when this was shot a couple of weeks back). I nabbed this yummy sweater dress at a sale at Bloomies, the faux leather trousers have proven time and again to be my best (i.e. most used) purchase from Zara, which is mostly reserved as an excellent resource for affordable, up to the minute on-tend shoes.

The oversized curb link necklace is a recent addition (there’s a matching bracelet too), it’s one of my fave chain designs–very masculine. The rhinestone link is unapologetically gaudy. Styled with a layered ensemble in a dark palette, it lends polish and a dose of well-needed flash.

THE PERFECT SLEEVELESS VEST

Sleeveless vest

I’ve been wanting to experiment with the sleeveless coat trend and saw the ideal specimen at the new Euro chic boutique, Trendy Mondays. They let me take this look out for a spin. The pastel blue vest/coat may not have sleeves, which makes it an ideal layering piece with chunky sweaters, but the pièce de résistance is the generous enveloping collar that transforms into a hood. Paired with a casual chic polka dot shirt dress and a structured bag to add polish. Will you try this on-trend piece on for size?

URBAN CHIC CAMO

Camo shrit and sued skirt
I’m a new covert to the camo print. And I love how the abstract print can be worn just as you would a leopard print, in other words treat it as a neutral.

HOLIDAY STYLE: SILK BOW BLOUSE + LEATHER TROUSERS

IMG_3394A sparkly dress is not your only option for the holiday party circuit. Substitute a sparkly silk blouse for a dress and leather look. One of the styles I never tire of is a bow blouse. This one is from the 80s with full sleeves in the silkiest of silks. Dress up the luxe combo with trio of necklaces in graduated lengths and you have glam alternative to party frock.
What’s your go-to ensemble for the holidays? Please share in the comments.

TRENCH COAT + CONVERSE X MISSONI: FASHION CLASSICS

Trench coat and converse

I was thrilled to find this military green trench at a recent sample sale at Chaiken. This classic is super warm and will keep me dry when it’s raining cats and dogs, which it has been recently. I thought the coat would be great to wear for evenings out with a dress and heels, and it serves equally well for a more casual ensemble. Another new acquisition–the Missoni chucks. I fell in love with the familiar zig-zag pattern and the colorway features my faves hues.  An enamel white and gold tone gigantic pendant adds mod glam.
